Allow us to introduce ourselves

Chapter Six

Keep moving, Katie. Don’t stop, Katie. You can’t stop. Not ever.

I’m running as fast as I can, moving, moving. The voice in my head is persistent, never quieting.

There are people around me, ignoring the panicking girl running past. They each have a unique hue to them, glowing blue and silver and grey. Someone stubs their toe and his hue flashes shades of red. The tower is only a few blocks away. That’s where I’ll know. Know for sure that I am awake. That I am safe.

Hurry, Katie, hurry! Something is happening… you don’t want to miss it, do you?

“…it’s just a shame, those deaths, so young…”

“And that poor girl, Katie something…comatose!” I stop short. Do they mean me?

Ignore them, Katie. Keep going.

I walk up to them.

“Can you see me?” I ask, my heart pounding.

“What a shame, a true shame!” they kept on talking, even when I yell, make noise, try to hit their table. My hand slides right through.

“No! NO! You said I was safe! That I was alive!”

And you are. And, just like I promised, you aren't dreaming.

“Liar! I can’t Ghost like this in the real world! Show yourself so I can see you!” I reach my mind out, trying to find the source of the voice.

“I’ll find you! I’ll make you bring me back!”

Careful, Katie…you don’t want to push your luck…

“You think you can scare me! I deal with angry spirits like you every day. It comes with my…gift. I can handle you.”

But I am not an ordinary spirit. I am alive, in the real world, in the Dream Realm, I am everywhere and anywhere. And you are just a child, Katie. You have no idea what I am capable of. Now get to the tower before I make you.

I start to run again, this time away from the tower. In the past, if an angry spirit is harassing me, doing the opposite of what they say gets them angry enough they have a physical form. That way I can see them and wake up.

Stop. I don’t want to have to do this, Katie. I smile to myself. If they are showing mercy, I can use it to my advantage.

I will if I must, Katie. I have little interest in your soul. I only need your gift, and a vessel to hold it. The only reason you aren’t already dead is because I need you to find my family. Now Turn Around. The spirit’s last two words are stronger, more clear in my mind. I turn around and run to the tower, despite my protests.

Not so hard, right, Katie? Now then. Enter. Once inside, Go Up.

I do as they say, I have no other choice. I wish my brother was here. He would know what to do.

Awaken my family, Katie. I promise you’ll live.

“Live? You said you needed a vessel! That your family’s minds will replace mine!”

You aren’t the vessel, dear. I already have the vessels ready for us. You are here to bring them back and provide Mother with her gift. Now Obey.
